0.6 Study method & test strategy: image/video questions, traps, prioritisation

Unit 0 / Lesson 0.6 — Study technique & test strategy (how to pass efficiently)

Passing the Theory test is not only “knowing facts” — it’s being able to choose the safest legal option under time pressure. This lesson gives you a clear study plan, a proven practice method, and a strategy for answering scenario questions.

📦 Unit: 0 🧭 Mapping: EX, TR, TS, PF, MJ, FM 🎯 Goal: stable 80%+ on mixed practice tests before booking
Most effective routine
Learn → Practice → Review mistakes → Repeat
The review step is where you gain points fast.
Daily minimum plan
30–45 minutes (focused)
Consistency beats “one long weekend” study.

What you will be able to do after this lesson

  • Build a realistic weekly plan that covers all exam areas.
  • Use “mistake categories” to fix weak topics fast.
  • Answer scenario questions with a simple method: Identify → Predict risk → Choose safest legal option.
  • Manage time in the Theory test without rushing into traps.
  • Prepare a calm test-day routine (sleep, food, timing, mindset).

✅ The high-score study loop (do this every day)

  • 10–15 min learn a topic (rules + examples)
  • 15–20 min practice questions on that topic
  • 10 min review every wrong answer (why wrong, what rule)
  • Write 1–2 “rules in your own words” for mistakes

❌ The most common reason people fail

  • They do many questions… but don’t review mistakes
  • They memorise answers instead of learning the rule
  • They avoid weak topics (parking, priority, signs, distance)
  • They do only “easy” topic tests, not mixed tests

A simple 2-week plan you can repeat

Rule: Each day includes (1) learning, (2) practice, (3) review. On weekends: mixed tests + deep review.
DayMain focusPractice targetReview & notes
MonTR Priority & intersections30–40 questions (scenario-heavy)Write 5 “if–then” rules (right-hand rule, yield/stop, main road)
TueTR Signs + road markings40 questions (sign+marking combos)Screenshot/notes of confusing signs & add to your mistake list
WedTS Speed, distance, braking35 questions + 10 quick calculationsReview why “earlier speed adaptation” beats “hard braking”
ThuPF Fatigue, alcohol/drugs, distraction30 questions (risk decisions)Create a “safe choice” checklist for risk questions
FriFM Vehicle knowledge (tyres, lights, safety)30 questions + short summariesNote minimum facts (tyre depth, warning lights logic, safety checks)
SatMIX Mixed practice test1 full mixed testDeep review of every wrong answer (make 10 flash rules)
SunFIX Weakest 2 topics2 topic tests + mini mixed setRe-test the same mistakes until you get them right twice

Exam-style answering strategy (click to expand)

1) The “4-step” method for scenario questions
  • Identify: What type of situation is it? (intersection, pedestrian, parking, motorway…)
  • Constraints: Signs, markings, speed, visibility, road condition, vulnerable road users
  • Predict the risk: What could happen in the next 2–3 seconds?
  • Choose: The safest legal option that creates the largest margin
2) Time management inside the Theory test
  • Don’t overthink early: answer, then flag uncertain questions (if your test interface allows) and return later.
  • Use a steady rhythm. If you get stuck: re-read the last line (what exactly is asked?).
  • When two answers seem right, the best one usually gives more safety margin.
3) How to review mistakes (the “fast improvement” method)
  • For every wrong answer, write: Rule + Why your choice was risky/illegal + Correct safe action.
  • Tag it: TR / TS / PF / FM / MJ. Then you know what to study next.
  • Repeat the same topic test until you score high twice in a row.
4) Test-day checklist
  • Sleep properly and avoid last-minute heavy cramming.
  • Arrive early to reduce stress.
  • If you feel stress: slow your breathing and read carefully — most mistakes come from rushing.
  • Remember: the test is designed to reward safe decisions, not “fast driving” thinking.

🇬🇧 Practice test
🇸🇪 Övningsprov
EX
A mixed or topic-based test used to measure readiness and find weak areas.
🇬🇧 Question bank
🇸🇪 Frågebank

Reviewing wrong answers and turning them into clear rules and reminders.
🇬🇧 Safety margin
🇸🇪 Säkerhetsmarginal
